Weekly Headbangers' Challenge
This week's Headbangers challenge was TOUGH! Choosing one picture that sums up your work, your style and YOU was verging on impossible...I eventually decided on the one above as I love street photography and in a market in Turkey last year there was lots on offer. The guy running the stall just happened to eyeball me just as I pressed the shutter, which looks ominous but he was very friendly. People around are just carrying on about their business and you can see what the guy's stall has to offer. A real moment captured for posterity. Black and white really lets you see the important things in the picture. It was a very colourful scene and if I'd kept in in colour the picture would just be too messy and busy. Simple and striking...

DeleteA man after my own heart. You can't beat a bit of photography on the street to get the heart racing. It's strange that in other European countries they welcome you and your camera with open arms, while here you're viewed as a threat.
ReplyDeleteWe were in Greece a few years ago and this young boy and his sister almost begged me to take their photo. So of course I did, and nobody seemed to mind at all.
Do you watch DigitalrevTV videos on Youtube? They review cameras mostly, and mostly make a complete pig's ear of it (in a funny way), but the presenter, Kai, is an excellent street photographer and he really inspired me when I first started out. You're right though, it seems that the more 'Western' you are the more you dislike having your picture taken. I'm not sure why that is, possibly because the media feed us a constant stream of death, war and lies to fuel our paranoia and we are all left feeling vulnerable outside of our own homes now. Someone taking your picture without your permission, when you're feeling vulnerable can feel threatening and the general reaction is one of anger..which is sad.
DeleteI like it, and I like the black and white. It is perfect for this set. I see that you are also a traveller. I have been, but our travels will be cut short because of my husband's health issues. There are lots of places within a couple days of home that we have not explored.
ReplyDeleteJust like us then..We live less than 4 hours away from some of the most beautiful landscapes and vistas in the world, but I've only been there a couple of times and my wife, who's an actual scot and has lived here all her life, has only been up there once and that was this year!
